For us, a great vacation always involves delicious food and beautiful scenery. Our choice of Comporta as a place for our holiday home was not by chance - the food scene is amazing, and in this article, we share some of our top tips. We kept it short and to the point so you can easily take action.
During high season, we strongly advise that you make bookings in advance for the recommended restaurants.
Foodie Paradise: Our Favourite Restaurants
Dinner Delights
Restaurante Dona Bia: (Location: Main road between Comporta and Carvalhal) Reservations a must! Enjoy classic Portuguese and Alentejana cuisine with a focus on appetizers. We love the codfish fritters, turbot in Bolhão Pato sauce, and the razor clam and shrimp rice.
Comporta Café (Comporta Beach): Perfect for an early-evening meal with a sunset view. Their fried potato skins are a great starter, followed by piri-piri shrimp, lobster rice, or grilled fish.
Gomes - Vinhos e Petiscos (Comporta Center): This spot has an extensive wine list and delicious tapas. We recommend the shrimp and alheira sausage croquettes, broken eggs, and pork cheek.
São João (Comporta Center): A traditional restaurant with affordable prices. Perfect for a seafood rice or fresh fish dish.
Praia na Comporta: A Philippe Starck project with a Après Ski at the Beach Concept. It has DJ in the evenings during the weekend.
JNCQUOI Deli : designed by AD100 designer JPDemeyer&Co, blends the spirit of Alentejo with innovative design and world-class cuisine.
For drinks after dinner, head to Jacaré in Comporta Center, known for its lively atmosphere with DJs on Fridays and Saturdays.
Lunchtime Delights
Sal (Carvalhal Beach): A classic beachside lunch spot. Their portions are generous, so consider sharing! Try the calamari with aioli, clams in Bolhão Pato sauce, black cuttlefish rice, or grilled sea bass.
JNCQUOI Beach Club (Pego Beach): The trendiest spot in Comporta, offering beach service with loungers, towels, and excellent cocktails. For lunch, try the lobster hotdog, salmon wrap, or beef sandwich. In their restaurant, tempuras, green bean fritters, stuffed crab, and paella of "carabineiro" or duck are all excellent choices. Don't miss their signature baba dessert or the sponge cake with olive oil.
Sublime Beach Club (Carvalhal Beach): Great cocktails, delicious food, and excellent service. We recommend the Iberian ham, baby squid, garlic shrimp, tiger shrimp, or lobster rice. Grilled fish is also a great option.
Beyond the Beach: Must-do Activities
